April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child Abuse Prevention Month at the Family Resource Center

April is a time for blooming flowers, warmer weather, and a renewed sense of hope. It’s also National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to celebrate the strength of families and the power of a supportive community. At the Family Resource Center (FRC), we believe prevention starts by supporting and connecting families, ensuring every child can grow and thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.

For over 28 years, the FRC has been a trusted presence in Coös and Northern Grafton counties, offering resources and support that empower families to overcome challenges and build a brighter future. Our mission is rooted in the belief that when families have the tools they need to thrive, children flourish—and together, we create a community where child abuse and neglect are prevented through strength, not crisis.

Prevention Begins with Support

Keeping families strong and supported is the cornerstone of preventing child abuse and neglect. It’s not about assigning blame but providing the tools, stability, and care families need to navigate life’s challenges. Prevention is possible when families have access to resources, education, and a caring community that surrounds them with compassion.

Child abuse and neglect can disrupt a child’s development and impact their future, but with the right support systems in place, we can build a culture that prioritizes safety and well-being. That’s where the FRC comes in, offering programs and services that focus on helping families before they reach a point of crisis.

What the Family Resource Center Does

Throughout April and every day of the year, the FRC works tirelessly to strengthen families with services and resources designed to make a positive difference:

  • Parenting Education: Our workshops and classes equip parents with knowledge and tools to create a nurturing home environment. From positive parenting techniques to understanding child development, we empower families to grow together.

  • Family Support Services: Whether it’s navigating financial stress, relationship challenges, or other hurdles, our team is here to help families build resilience and find stability.

  • Resource and Referral Services: We connect families with vital resources, such as food assistance, housing support, and mental health services, so they can feel confident and supported.

  • Community Collaboration: Preventing child abuse is a shared responsibility. We partner with schools, organizations, and community leaders to create a network of care that families can rely on.

How You Can Help Make a Difference

Child abuse prevention is something we all have the power to influence. Here’s how you can support families in your community this April and beyond:

  • Be a Source of Support: Offering a helping hand or a listening ear to a family in need can create ripple effects of kindness.

  • Spread the Message: Share the importance of child abuse prevention and the resources available at the FRC. Together, we can raise awareness and inspire action.

  • Volunteer or Donate: Your time or financial contributions make it possible for the FRC to deliver essential programs and support. Every effort helps to strengthen our community.

Together, We Can Prevent Child Abuse

At the Family Resource Center, we believe that strong families build strong communities. By providing resources, stability, and care, we can prevent crises before they happen and create a safe, nurturing environment for every child.
