April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Wear Blue Day: Standing Together for Children in the North Country

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to protect the children in our communities. At the Family Resource Center (FRC), this mission is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’re especially excited to promote Wear Blue Day on April 4th, 2025, and encourage everyone in Coos and Northern Grafton counties to participate.

What is Wear Blue Day?

Wear Blue Day is a simple yet powerful way to show your support for child abuse prevention. By wearing blue – the designated color for child abuse prevention – you’re visually demonstrating that you stand with children and families and believe in the importance of creating safe, nurturing environments for every child. It’s a day to spark conversations, raise awareness, and unite as a community against child abuse and neglect.

Why Wear Blue Matters, Especially in the North Country

Here at the FRC, we see firsthand the challenges families in our rural communities face. Limited resources, geographic isolation, and economic hardship can sometimes create environments where children are vulnerable. That’s why raising awareness and providing support is critical here in the North Country.

Wearing blue isn’t just a symbolic gesture; it’s a visible reminder that:

  • We are a community that cares: It shows families that they are not alone and that there are people who support their well-being and their children’s safety.
  • We are committed to prevention: By raising awareness, we can educate individuals about the signs of child abuse and neglect and promote positive parenting practices.
  • We are working to create safer environments for children: It encourages conversations about the importance of child safety and the resources available to families in need.

How You Can Participate in Wear Blue Day in the North Country

There are many ways to get involved in Wear Blue Day and show your support:

  • Wear Blue! This is the easiest and most visible way to participate. Encourage your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors to wear blue on April 4th.
  • Spread the word: Share information about Wear Blue Day on social media using the hashtag #WearBlueDay and #FRCNorthCountry. Explain why you’re participating and encourage others to join you.
  • Organize a Wear Blue event: Consider hosting a small gathering at your workplace, school, or community center where everyone wears blue and discusses child abuse prevention.
  • Donate to the FRC: Your generous contributions help us provide vital programs and services to families in Coos and Northern Grafton counties.
  • Volunteer your time: We always welcome volunteers to help with our programs and events. Contact us to learn about volunteer opportunities.

  • Parenting education classes: We offer classes that teach positive parenting skills, conflict resolution, and stress management.
  • Family support services: We provide case management, referrals, and other support services to families facing challenges.
  • Early childhood programs: Our programs for young children promote healthy development and school readiness.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Wear Blue Day is more than just a day to wear a specific color. It’s a day to stand together as a community and say that we are committed to protecting children. By wearing blue, spreading the word, and supporting organizations like the FRC, you can help create a brighter, safer future for all children in the North Country.

We encourage everyone in Coos and Northern Grafton counties to join us on April 4th, 2025, and Wear Blue for Child Abuse Prevention. Let’s show our children that we care and that we are working together to create a community where every child can thrive.

Let’s work together to strengthen families and build healthier communities, one blue shirt at a time!
