Celebrating the Power of Reunification
National Reunification Month
Why National Reunification Month Matters at the Family Resource Center
June is National Reunification Month—a time to honor the extraordinary efforts families make to rebuild, reconnect, and reunite. At the Family Resource Center, reunification isn’t just a moment—it’s a journey. And for us, it’s one of the most meaningful parts of the work we do alongside families across the North Country.
Each year, we walk alongside parents who have faced some of life’s hardest moments. We see their determination to overcome obstacles, their bravery in addressing challenges, and their unrelenting love for their children. These families navigate complex systems, show up for themselves and their kids, and commit to healing and growth. That’s why every June, we don’t just mark Reunification Month, we celebrate it.
A Day to Celebrate: Our Annual Reunification Celebration
On June 25th, we’ll gather for one of our most special days of the year—our Annual Reunification Celebration. This invitation-only event brings together families who have worked tirelessly to reunite with their children following involvement with DCYF. It’s a day filled with joy, connection, and pride. Children run and play, parents smile with hard-earned relief, and the entire community—caseworkers, Family Resource Center staff, and supporters—comes together to celebrate healing, resilience, and love.
DCYF partners join us, and during the event, we honor the incredible efforts of both families and staff with special recognitions and awards. But perhaps the greatest reward is seeing children with their families, together, safe, and thriving.
Reunification Is Quiet, Life-Changing Work
Reunification often happens quietly. There’s no headline when a parent finishes a class, attends a counseling session, or shows up to a supervised visit. There’s no breaking news when a family meets all their case goals and brings their child home. But these moments are powerful, and they deserve to be seen and celebrated.
We believe every child deserves the chance to be raised in a safe, nurturing, and loving home—and every parent deserves the support they need to get there. Our team works tirelessly through programs like Supervised Visitations, Strength to Succeed, Kinship Navigation, Recovery Coaching, and trauma-informed parenting support to ensure families don’t walk this journey alone.
“Reunification is one of the most courageous journeys a family can take. It’s built on love, resilience, and the unwavering belief that healing is possible. Every step forward is a testament to the strength of parents, the hope of children, and the power of community. These moments change lives and that’s why we celebrate them.” — Ashlie Micucci, Reunification & Recovery Director
Reunification Is a Community Effort
It takes a village—literally. Reunification is never the work of one person. It’s the result of systems working together, people showing up, and families finding strength in the face of adversity. We’re so proud to be a part of that process and to celebrate the milestones that too often go unrecognized.
So this month, we invite you to learn more about reunification. Talk about it. Share stories. Support families on the path. And most of all, celebrate it—because when a family reunites, our whole community gets stronger.
Happy Reunification Month from all of us at the Family Resource Center.
