Honoring Our Home Visitors: A Letter for Home Visitor Appreciation Week

Home Visitor Appreciation Week is a time to recognize the incredible work of home visiting professionals who walk alongside families every day. Our Director of Family Support, Briana Shannon, shares this message of gratitude to the home visitors who make our work possible.

Dear Home Visitors,

This week, I want to take a moment to pause and recognize something that I hope we never take for granted—our home visitors.

The work you do every day is both simple in appearance and incredibly meaningful in impact. You step into families’ homes and lives with respect, openness, and consistency. You meet people where they are, without judgment, and you build relationships rooted in trust, dignity, and care.

That kind of work cannot be rushed. It cannot be scripted. It is built visit by visit, conversation by conversation, and moment by moment. And it is because of you—our home visitors—that those moments turn into meaningful change for families.

As Director of Family Support, I have the privilege of seeing the impact of your work up close. I see parents gaining confidence in themselves. I see families beginning to feel less alone. I see children reaching milestones, and caregivers growing stronger in ways they may not always recognize themselves. I see a community more connected, and I see how much of that growth is directly connected to the way you show up.

I also want to acknowledge the parts of your work that are not always visible—the long drives, the emotional weight you carry, the flexibility it takes to meet families where they are, and the quiet strength it takes to keep showing up, even on the hard days.

Home visiting is not just a service we provide. It is a relationship. And you are the ones who make that relationship possible.

Home Visitor Appreciation Week is a chance to say what often doesn’t get said enough: thank you. Thank you for your commitment. Thank you for your professionalism. Thank you for the compassion you bring into every home. And thank you for the way you support families, even when the work is complex or heavy.

You make a difference in ways that ripple far beyond a single visit. Families are stronger because of you. Children are supported because of you. And our programs are better because of the work you do every day.

I am deeply grateful to work alongside you.
